Miakay & Co was born from a simple but powerful belief: that fashion can be a force for good. We are a women-focused sustainable fashion house based in Johannesburg, and everything we create carries a deeper purpose.
Our team — 90% women — is the heart of what we do. From the first stitch to the final press, every garment that leaves our workshop carries the skill, care and pride of women who have been given a real opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families.
We are not just a clothing manufacturer. We are a social enterprise that covers the gap of skills transfer and employment for women from different walks of life. Our focus is on empowerment, upliftment, ethical practices and the production of eco-friendly garments.

We have all heard the fashion industry horror stories — workers made to labour under unbearable conditions, paid far below the minimum wage. The horrendous treatment of women in particular, from sexism to harassment, further propelled us to take a different path.
We embarked on this journey to deal with what we call the wicked problems — poverty, inequality and underdevelopment — through fair wages, real skills transfer and meaningful employment for women.
Our impact goes far beyond the workshop floor. We run savings schemes, goal-setting programmes and monthly personal reviews for our staff. We provide support on the issues that affect their lives beyond work. In recent years, we have employed more than 30 people and positively impacted over 50 families through our programmes.
